HamptonCenter, CentralFloridaCommunity College (CFCC)
The HamptonCenter of the Central Florida Community College (CFCC) is home to two of the College's Health and Human Services programs including the Physical Therapy Assistant Program and Dental Assisting program.
During 2006, the HamptonCenter contracted our Principal to facilitate community participation in the design of its Strategic Plan 2007 – 2012. Our Principal proposed an Appreciative Inquiry approach which was approved by the Advisory Committee of the Center and designed an action program which engaged the community, Faculty, staff and students.
According to the Director of the HamptonCenter:
“An important part of the planning process was to engage the community in discussions about their dreams for the future. We hope to address real needs as we expand on the programs and services offered.”
One member of the Advisory Committee stated:
“This was a positive experience that encouraged participation and established bridges to the community that will serve the College well for years to come.”
The results of this intervention were the strategic goals and objectives for the plan and a valuable tactical framework for ongoing operations of the Center.
Aligning Values
Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat
During 2001-2002, our Principal designed a process to transform the organization by collaboratively identifying Core Values. The Executive Management Committee of the CARICOM Secretariat approved the process and twenty-two focus groups consisting of more than 95 per cent of staff, engaged in the consultative sessions. Our Principal diagnosed the major areas of concern and designed and facilitated a consultative process to generate a common vision of the organization and the values required to support its achievement.
The staff identified five Core Values for implementation. Our Principal designed and facilitated a series of implementation workshops to help the staff take personal ownership of the values. These processes significantly reduced the resistance to the implementation of the values and improved performance.
Results of this assignment included:
Ownership by staff of the Core Values;
Improved operational efficiency and performance;
Reduction in time spent negotiating conflict;
Creation of a more trusting environment and greater collaboration across the organization.
Change Management and Outplacement Services
Our client, the National Bank of Industry and Commerce (NBIC) in Guyana, South America had merged with a smaller bank. Our Principal was contracted during the acquisition process, to design and deliver Change Management Workshops for over 400 staff to facilitate the evolution of a cohesive organizational culture, reduce the potential for conflict and improve productivity in the shortest possible timeframe.
The result of this first phase of the assignment was the smooth operation of the merged entity with limited conflict and other dysfunctional behavioral issues typically associated with mergers, and improved productivity.
Later in the process, our Principal designed and delivered Outplacement Workshops for affected staff who were seeking other jobs and those who proposed to start their own businesses.
The latter activity reinforced the Bank's standing as a good corporate citizen and generated goodwill in the local community.
